Network Operations Center
Requirements are used to design information systems and applications, but every developed system, no matter how well designed and implemented, needs support. The responsibility for providing support for many of the systems and information technologies sponsored by FHP&R belongs to the Network Operations Center (NOC). “NOC” is a common term, used to denote a location that manages multiple aspects of controlling computers, communications networks or information systems. The FHP&R NOC has both unclassified and classified areas. It provides support for a wide variety of information systems, applications and technologies, unclassified, classified, public and private, serving a wide range of users, not just FHP&R staff.
The FHP&R NOC leverages virtualization technology to significantly reduce the physical server footprint and power requirements while increasing reliability and resiliency. It lets us do much more with far less in terms of hardware and other equipment. The NOC also uses approved segmentation techniques and tools to protect the network and everything riding on it. This design segregates systems based on user community and associated risk, keeping separate public, private and restricted sites and applications.
